Hello Folks!

Writing for college may seem daunting but with practice writing, reading, thinking and your best, most underrated friend revision it can be mastered. You’re refining your ideas to communicate with not only the world, but for yourself.

Here’s what English Composition is designed to help you do:

  • Introduce you to the art and craft of college writing, and to challenge your way of thinking about what the function and purpose of essays are that enables you to communicate your ideas effectively and clearly without any ambiguity.
  • Write clearly, organize essay drafts with increasing levels of coherence, develop complex arguments, and engage in subject-specific material in a scholarly way.
  • Develop the clarity of your writing by producing and revising multiple drafts of essays and learning how to spot and eliminate grammatical errors in the copy.
  • Improve the coherence of your prose by gaining practice with principles of style and arrangement and by practicing with models and templates of argument.
  • Write complex arguments by learning how to read actively and analytically and by practicing multiple rhetorical invention strategies that will help you develop your claims.
  • Engage in a scholarly manner with course material by conducting independent bibliographic research at the library, evaluating sources for their relevance and reliability, learning effective strategies for quoting, summarizing, and paraphrasing and how to avoid plagiarism, and by becoming familiar with and utilizing the MLA citation style.
